Love

What cradled my infancy
May speak my dying words
Yet stride on – earths beyond them
Losing neither mirth nor might

These days so brightly sung
Have known in spanless time
The perfect Rhyme of God:
Every point its pair and counter

My life’s love, Love
Dares unblinking constancy
When every filament
Be stretched and stripped

A granite hub
When every edifice
Blown like balsa
On the breezes of illusion

If the suns meet dissolution
And shadows interlock
And all hopes that ever lived
Flock to cower in the soil

Will yet our smiling Love remain:
Friend and firmament
Reason and repose
Merriment and sense
